Thirichukaal is the first among the two directional leg movement methods of kalaripayattu. This is one among the very difficult leg movements in two directional leg movement category. This leg movement is very valuable and helpful for kalaripayattu practitioners to get more balance in koti chuvadu, ability to turn round in lightening fast, to defend both the attacks from forward and backward directions while performing verumkai of kalaripayattu and to perform different techniques of verumkai mura in eight directions. This leg movement is used to practice in two directional, four directional and eight directional methods in kalari. Those who practice Thirichukaal in eight directional and four directional methods will be benefited with more body balance along with perfect alignment of nerves, muscles and organs at its exact positions. The advanced level of leg movements are able to find only in those kalaris which follows traditional gurukul format and the practitioners can be benefited with higher level of abilities from kalaripayattu practice.
