Malsyapandhithirummu is helpful to improve the beauty of eight dimensions of body of a senior student as described in kalaripayattu. It is also helpful to improve the ability and speed of movements in different positions, to reduce retardation and pain in joints and to stay strong in kalaripayattu postures for long duration of time. The ability of a student to perfectly perform Kalaripayattu postures, forward and backward movements, transformation to different stance, jumps, smashes etc have a great role, while undergoing angathari or weapon training segment of kalaripayattu. The practice of malsyavadivu or fish posture will be helpful to improve speed and capability to perform above mentioned items. It is possible to apply several strong applications in this posture from ground level to upper portion of the body of the opponent and he may lose chances to move forward and to attack further. There are a lot of attacking applications in every other postures of kalaripayattu but mean while malsyavadivu has some important role. The postures imitated in kalaripayattu are mostly of animals which are used to live both in land and water and they have to move through a medium of air and water. But fish is an animal which is living only in water and needs extra strength to move through water as compared to a medium of air. While performing malsyavadivu and associated movements the students are supposed to apply several applications especially thrusting or passing through water or air which improves their ability to attack faster. This therapy is mostly provided for dedicated students who have been practicing 12 years related to angathari of kalaripayattu. The therapy course duration may be 14, 21 or 41 days depending upon the person and circumstances who are subjected to this therapy.
